Karls Village Fishermen's Wharf

Intersection of Channel Islands Boulevard and Victoria Avenue

Channel Islands Harbor provides two dedicated commercial fishing offloading facilities to ensure reliable access for commercial fishermen, seafood processors, and buyers.

Both facilities provide access from both the roadway and the water, allowing commercial vessels to efficiently offload their catch for transport to local seafood buyers and processors.

Critical Commercial Fishing Infrastructure

As part of Ventura County's long-term Channel Islands Harbor Public Works Plan, these offloading facilities represent essential commercial fishing infrastructure that supports one of California's most productive fishing ports.

Maintaining two independent hoists and wharfs provides an important level of operational redundancy. Scheduled maintenance, mechanical repairs, or unexpected equipment failures can occasionally take one facility temporarily out of service. When that occurs, the second offloading facility allows commercial fishing operations to continue with minimal disruption, helping fishermen deliver their catch safely, efficiently, and without unnecessary delays.

This dual-facility approach helps ensure that Channel Islands Harbor continues to provide dependable access for the commercial fishing fleet while supporting the local seafood industry and maintaining the working waterfront that has served our community for generations.

Karls Village Hoist Status

The Karls Village offloading hoist (crane) is currently out of service due to a power shutdown.

Karls Village is preparing for a major redevelopment of the 10-acre property at the corner of Channel Islands Boulevard and Victoria Avenue. At this time, the duration of the outage is unknown. Based on current information, VCCFA anticipates disruptions to hoist operations through September 2026. Commercial fishing activity that requires an operaring hoist should utilize Marine Emporium Landing during this period of time.

Karls Village Fishermen's Wharf Access

The wharf remains accessible for commercial fishermen who do not require the hoist.

Access is available through the gate on the Victoria Avenue side of the property. Please:

Close the gate immediately after entering and exiting.
Do not leave the gate open longer than necessary. If your vehicle is not there - the gate should be closed! Please obey this strictly.

Offloading Operations

All commercial offloading activities requiring a hoist have been temporarily relocated to Marine Emporium Landing.

Operating Procedures

For all hoists, access is for Commercial Fishermen to utilize for non hazardous lifting. You must obtain permission from the Management of the Commercial Fishing Wharfs to ensure you understand the rules. Read more for Management contact information. All wharfs should be left in the condition they were found. Wash off any debris left behind and return the chain to its proper place along with the button box and any lines.

Karls Village Fishermen's Wharf

This hoist is coin operated. Coins can be obtained from The County of Ventura Harbor Patrol. VCHP can be reached on Channel 12 VHF, by calling (805) 973-5959 or going to the VCHP office located by the Fuel Dock.

A notice of liability and the rules must be signed before any usage. This document is available at the Harbor Patrol Office.

You may use the wharf for non-hoist usage. The same general rules apply.

Access from the street can be gained using the gate at Victoria Avenue. The gate has a latch on the inside and opens inward. You MUST shut the gate behind you after each time you use the gate. DO NOT leave the gate open!

Staging Gear: As the same procedure we have used for years, Gear staging must be cleared by the Ventura County Harbor Patrol. Any unattended non authorized gear is subject to removal.

Suntex Marine Emporium Landing

This hoist is not currently coin operated. Access to the hoist can be obtained by contacting Hooks Landing at (805) 382-6233 or going to the Hooks office located on the premises at 3600 S. Harbor Blvd, Suite 115, Oxnard, CA 93035.

A notice of liability and the rules must be signed before any usage. This document is available at Hooks Landing Storefront.

Contact Hooks with as much notice as possible. Leave a message if you have to. Leave your expected arrival time, name, and phone number. The more time you give them to arrange access, the more chance of a smooth offload.

You may use the wharf for non-hoist usage. The same general rules apply.

Access from the street can be obtained by unlocking the chain in between Waterside and Seafresh Restuarants. The chain has a lock. You MUST lock the chain behind you after each time you use. DO NOT leave the chain open!

Staging Gear: Procedures for staging gear are still being developed. Contact Hooks Landing with any questions. Any unattended non authorized gear is subject to removal.
